Eames DSW chair

Designed by the husband and wife team Charles and Ray Eames, they revolutionised furniture manufacturing with there range of moulded fibreglass chairs. Not afraid to experiment with new materials the couple set about producing a variety of shapes including the Eames RAR ,Eames DSR and Eames DSW and similar in design to the wire Eames wire DKR. The striking design still looks as contemporary today as they did when they first graced the furniture shops, a truly iconic piece of designer furniture.

History of the DSW Chair

The revolutionary design and materials used in the Eames chair were immediately recognised with a 1948 winning entry in the New York Museum of Modern art low cost design competition. Although initially produced in fibreglass it is now more commonly available in bright coloured polypropayene which is far easier to recycle. The ergonomic comfortable seat shell was the first plastic chair to be mass produced.

Construction of the Eames Chair

Based on the classic Eames Chair design of the 1950s ergonimically moulded polypropylene seat shell available in 7 bright colours. The seat shell is supported by ash wood legs and black rods with protective plastic glides and as true to the original Eames DSW design as possible.
