Poul Kjaerholm's PK22 Chair

The black Italian leather PK22 easy chair bears a striking resemblance to Mies Van Der Rohe’s earlier Barcelona chair. However Poul Kjaerholm’s ultra minimal design using only leather and steel make this PK22 chair a design classic in its own right. The designer chairs marriage of industrial brushed stainless and soft Italian leather works in any interior. Kjaerholm believed that steel had the same artistic fineness as wood and his comprehensive PK range exploited both the materials strength and flexibility, with the PK22 chair the perfect example.

History of the PK22 Easy Chair

The PK22 designer chair received immediate commercial and critical acclaim when it was first introduced in 1956. Like his Danish compatriot Arne Jacobsen a year earlier, Poul Kjaerholm won the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale in 1957 for the PK22, the finest distinction at the show. Another similarity with many of the great furniture designers of the 20th Century, Kjaerholm was an architect and designed the PK22 originally for his home.

Heavy gauge brushed stainless steel (grade 304) and beautiful semi-aniline leather are the underlying qualities that make up our reproduction PK22 designer chair. A stitched leather seat with no padding, buttons or extra detail allow the simplicity to shine through without compromising on comfort. The chairs cantilevered seat is stabilized by a double cross beam that is precisely positioned so the body rests naturally without a hard front edge or top rail.
