George Nelson Platform Bench

The Platform Bench from George Nelson is a perfect example of 20th Century modernism, simple, and clean lines for a true minimalist look.
Reminiscent of Japanese furniture, it can function both as a bench and as a modern coffee table. Over the years this example of designer furniture has been used in a variety of spaces and as such are not just suited to the home environment.

History of the Nelson Bench

Like many of his peers at that time George Nelson studied Architecture at University. After working for years with Pencil Points interviewing and being influenced by the likes of Mies Van Der Rohe, Le Corbusier, Charles and Ray Eames and Harry Bertoia, George Nelson was employed by the Herman Miller Company. It was there in 1946 that George Nelson produced the Platform Bench as part of his collection for the Herman Miller Company. The designer coffee table still stands as a benchmark in modern design.

Materials of the Nelson Bench

Our inspired version is made to the same high standards as the original design. The bench is constructed from either Natural Ash wood or Black Lacquered Ash wood with Black Lacquered Ash wood base and available in the following sizes and finishes.
